With the New Year upon us, it’s time to start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions. One of Beta Chapter’s 2016 resolutions is to stay connected with our fellow brothers and be more active. So, what have you been up to since you left UNC? Have you caught up with any brothers recently? Attended any events? Gotten married? Had kids or grandkids? Moved? Retired? We, your brothers, want to know!

“The 30th Annual Fenton D. Winstead Tennis event was held Dec. 27, 2015. I hosted it in Rocky Mount at the Benvenue Country Club. Other former UNC Phis in attendance included William W. (Bill) Taylor, Donald Craven, Charles Winstead, Byrd Winstea, and Alex Winstead (all first cousins). Local celebrity George Whitaker showed up just as cocktails were served.”

Lt Commander Richard A. Vinroot Jr ( BA 92, MD, MPH 04) returned from Kandahar, southern Afghanistan last December, where he was Trauma Team Leader with the US Navy Medical Corps. He has redeployed forward again and is serving as Director of Emergency Services with US Navy Expeditionary Medicine at Camp Lemonnier, a counter-terrorism base located in Djibouti, Horn of Africa. When not deployed with the military, Dr. Vinroot is an Emergency Medicine physician at the Ochsner Health Systems in New Orleans.

“You asked for my biggest accomplishment; clearly that was marrying Joyce Watt, who was a Tri-Delt at Carolina. We were both in the Class of '66. Needless to say, she was a regular visitor at the PDT house. Our 50th reunion is this May. After Carolina and Duke Law School we have lived and worked in Atlanta, Washington, Paris, Washington again and then Austin where we have been for the last 34 years. I have retired from my law practice and am now training horses and bird dogs, chasing redfish, bonefish and tarpon and visiting our six grandchildren full time. Life is good.

I was president of the Class of '66 and am in charge of planning for the reunion. Joyce and PDT Bill Taylor and George Wainwright are on the planning committee with me. We are expecting a big turnout from our class of '66 PDT brothers.
