Class of 1982

Barden Winstead, Jr. '82, native of Roxboro, NC, married Molly Trimble Beacham, native of Alexandria, LA (L.S.U. '83) on July 30th, 2011 in Cashiers, NC. We're living in Rocky Mount, NC where I've been living for 27 years and I recently opened an office (br. mgr./Sr.V.P.) for investment firm Stifel Nicolaus. I see and hear from many of my cousin Winstead Phis, most of whom are getting old and worn out. I'd also like to remind everyone of the life of John M. Cornick, my Phi Delt house roommate in 1979-80, who recently lost his battle with ALS. John had been right up until his death an integral part of our chapter, serving on the board for many years and his leadership and efforts contributed greatly to our fraternity's physical and fiscal soundness.

The attached picture, compliments of Carver Rudolph, '70, is from the 1969 Final Four in Louisville's Freedom Hall. A large group of Phis watched Carolina go down in defeat first to Rick Mount and Purdue and then to mighty Drake Bulldogs in the consolation. Note the Phis holding up four fingers to show where the Heels finished. NC Betas pictured are:
Murray, All State, Poole '69
Pete Davenport '72
Richard Adams '70
Leroy Keys, College Football All American and Heisman Runner up in 1969 from Purdue who was elected as an Honorary NC Beta Phi that weekend
Carver Rudolph '70
Harry Bryant '70
Bill Federal '69
Goofy Kelly ,69—Goofy who personally introduced John Wooden at the UCLA victory party following their win
Bill Aiken '72
Laverne Steele '69
And a local homeless man
Few Phis who made that trip would count it as one of the best weekends of their four years—whether the Heels won or not.
